When people reference this style, they’re probably picturing a side-gabled home with symmetrical facade and two or four dormers. Often you might also picture wood shake siding. Like something out of Grey Gardens. You can see it, right? Well that’s probably a Colonial Revival with distinctive finishes that make up an idea of a Cape Cod because it suggest New England, sea spray, lobster, and patrician grandeur. It’s still a Colonial Revival, but just a literary one.
